Our Services MIXING

Mixing - Step 2 of the Music Production Process. This page is to explain the mixing procedure.

When recording is done, we generally do multi-track recording. This means that several different 'pieces' (recordings from different microphones or at different times) are used to assemble the 'puzzle' (the song). As such, each 'puzzle piece' (the track) is adjusted and worked on separately before playing them all together. Mixing work involves setting sound (playback) levels to ensure each track is clearly heard. Levels are generally brought up to the highest amount before distortion occurs. If, at this maximum level, a track still isn't loud enough, we double it. That makes its volume stronger. We also employ a variety of processors to enhance the sound. These include equalizers, compressors, reverb, delay, gates and much more. For vocals, we have a dedicated vocal effects processor (we also have "Auto-Tune" software, just in case some 'polishing' needs to be done...) and for drums/percussion, we have a dedicated percussion effects processor.

The purpose of mixing is to turn the 'gem' that the Artist produced during recording into a jewel. However, just remember, if an Artist's performance wasn't really 'gemstone' quality but instead, more like a 'turd', we could also 'polish' that up. Only thing is, at the end of the day, a polished turd is still a piece of s...

So, remember the # 1 Commandment of Recording Studios:

"Thou shall not record in Recording Studio unrehearsed."

After all, we don't want to polish turds, we want to turn your 'gems' into 'jewels' !

Whether you are an Artist recording with us or if you already have tracks and would like help mixing them, we can help you. After mixing is completed, the last step in the Music Production Process is Mastering. For this step, we could master the mixed songs for the Artist or the Artist could take the mixed songs and master them themselves or at another studio.
